Have you ever known exactly what you needed to do next to get to that bigger level in your business? But thought you couldn’t afford it?

Maybe for you it’s hiring some admin support, investing in training or mentorship, maybe even getting an office…

But there’s that excuse I’ve seen creeping up for business owners over the last 16 years, keeping you from taking action on that one thing that will take you to where you want to be.

Would you like to know how to get past the belief that you can’t afford “that thing”? Watch this week’s 4-minute video to learn what I (and our students) do. It’ll change the way you look at life and business:

At a certain point in business, after you’ve done the low-cost to no-cost stuff to get a little traction, the thing you need actually has a price-tag on it.

It costs money.

And so the excuse pops up:

“I would really like to ______________, but I can’t afford it.”

That’s not actually true.

As I shared in this week’s video, the laws of Quantum Physics assure us that when we ASK for what we want, we are given that thing, 100% of the time.

But instead of taking that opportunity to grow, most people use an excuse to not even try.

And when you say yes to the excuse, you say no to your dreams, for good.

Thing is, you can decide at any moment to throw away your excuses.

You can decide to shift how you think about that opportunity for growth that’s right under your nose.

Instead of saying, “I CAN’T afford it” and being done with that, ask yourself, “HOW can I afford it?”

Be curious. Be resourceful. Find the money.

Be willing to hustle to do just a little bit more marketing to get a few more clients so you can invest in that thing that will get you to that next level, whether it’s mentorship, an assistant, or that new office.

The resources are always there. All you have to do is trust that they exist, look for them and then say YES.

You must be resourceful. You must take actions on the ideas that are presented to you as potential solutions.

The money (or time, expertise, etc.) you need is ALWAYS there. Especially when you look for the solution instead of relying on an excuse.

This subtle distinction is how I continue to grow my own business year after year, and it’s a core belief I pass on to our students so they do too. It’s pretty miraculous, actually. And it’s just a small shift in Mindset that pays off in spades.

P.S. You can stay where you are, but everything you want is on the other side of that excuse. Ditch it and then take action, OK?

The second mindset shift I’m revealing to you this week may leave you feeling a bit “prickly,” as I typically say, and yet your life will get so much easier when you accept this truth and shift your mindset around it.

You see, when you embrace it and LIVE by it, your business will grow like you’ve never experienced before. People around you will say, “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!?” and will want to know your secret…

I know you want to help people and take incredible care of your clients. But if you don’t put marketing first, you don’t get to do that.

It’s really that simple. It means that you have to get yourself out there, do the things that scare you a little and be willing to get uncomfortable.

You are a marketer first, before anything else. Accept this truth. Breathe it in. And then start doing things differently in your business so that you get the results you want.

This, contrary to popular belief about all things marketing, is about LOVE. It’s about loving those you serve through your business SO MUCH that you will gladly do the things that others won’t do. That you will walk through your fear and be willing to stumble and fall, and then get back up and try again.

This is how we learn. And grow. And ultimately…thrive.

Even when you do it “imperfectionately.” 😉

As entrepreneurs, we are dedicated. Right??

Go-getters. Driven (in a good way), willing to serve our clients and give more value than others.

And at the beginning, we’ll often be (overly) accommodating to prospects and clients to get them in the door, and we’ll do whatever it takes to please them so that they sign up and stay.

And hallelujah! It actually works!

This type of bending-over-backwards gets them in the door; they refer people and they stay. It’s wonderful (at first).

But then, after a while, you begin to resent being so “flexible” and “accommodating,” and unbeknownst to the client(s), the relationship begins to feel toxic to you.

Listen, I get it. It’s a conundrum.

On one hand, something’s gotta change. This level of “service” is just not sustainable and prevents you from growing your business and keeping your sanity.

On the other hand, expressing your resentment or making changes could mean losing those clients. And you don’t want THAT!

The elegant answer to your great-client-turned-toxic-client issue is in today’s 5-minute strategy video.

In it, I share with you the story of one of our Client Attraction Business School students, “John,” who felt like he was at the beck and call of all of his clients, continually bending over backwards at all hours of the day and night.

He felt trapped in his business, and wondered if he should throw in the towel and give it all up.

You’ll get to hear exactly what we did (and what you can do too) to set some boundaries with those clients and graciously stop people pleasing, for good.

The good news is that even if you are experiencing this right now, even if you are stuck in a cycle of being constantly present for your clients, I’m here to tell you that you can make a change. It’s not too late to take back control of your business!
