How to map out your 3-year vision

how-to-map-out-your-3-year-vision2015 is going to be your best year ever. Why, you may ask? Because I’m going to share with you something I have been doing every year in my business since I started. I really believe that because of this one thing, my income has always exceeded that of my previous year. The best part is it’s a really simple exercise that should only take you an hour or two. Make some time this weekend to sit down with a cup of tea and your notebook, and take action.

We’re going to project what you would like to have happen in the next year. This isn’t just a New Year’s Resolution… we’re going to take it even further and really stretch your business goals. The best way to stretch so much bigger than you normally would is to create a 3-year vision for your life. I like to make a 3-year vision, because using just a one-year plan makes us really self-conscious with worry that we won’t have enough time to make things happen.

Imagine that it’s January 9, 2018—three years from now. You’re sitting down and you’re looking over the past three years. Write in your journal, “I am so happy and grateful now that over the past three years I have accomplished…”

I want you to really map out what you would like to see your life be like exactly three years from today. Three years allows you to be a little less inhibited and more realistic (but still with a bit of a stretch). Instead of thinking, “Oh, can I really get this done,” when you have a period of three years, you actually let your mind open up to what could be possible if you have the time, the focus and the concentration to get it done. In other words, the sky is your limit.

This is key: write in the present tense as if it were 3 years from now. If it doesn’t scare you just a little bit or get your mind racing, then it’s probably not enough of a stretch. (By the way, I just looked back to last year’s 3-year vision and I was SHOCKED to see how many of the goals in my 3-year vision I’d already achieved in just a little over a year. I’m telling you, this really works!)

Your Client Attraction Assignment

Take out your journal or a piece of paper. Write what will happen over the next three years in your business. Imagine the place you will be in and think: What does it feel like? How do you feel inside? What are your surroundings? Where do you live? Who do you spend your time with? What do you do in your business? What do you no longer do in your business? How much money are you making?

Your 3-year vision must be one that will literally PULL you into your future, will scare you just a little bit and make your heart beat a little faster than normal whenever you read this.

Lastly, share your vision! Share what you’ve written with your spouse, partner, team and family. This is how you’re going to reach different levels of your business, different levels of your income and deep personal satisfaction in your life.

This is going to be the best year yet—for you, for me, for everybody—especially if you do this assignment. Happy New Year, everyone! Wishing you all the very best in 2015.

I just arrived in Dallas yesterday (I think this is actually my first time in Texas!) to speak at the annual eWomen Network Conference tomorrow morning. I’m speaking about “How to attract all the clients you’ll ever want (and join the top 5% of income earning women business owners). It’s going to be great networking and lots of fun. If You Want to Get Clients Now, Avoid the ‘Bright Shiny Object’ Syndrome

Most of my clients come to me for help actually knowing what to do to get clients. Many have been in business for years and years and have experienced what it’s like to have lots of clients. But things have changed and that’s no longer the case. So they’ve since read plenty of books, bought manuals, attended 4-day workshops, heard countless teleclasses, but still don’t have all the clients they need.

You’d think, with all that information, they’d be ready to implement it all. I mean, doesn’t it just take putting one foot in front of the other? What I’ve discovered is it’s not that easy. Sure, you may know you have to get clear on what you offer. Then, once you do that, you’ve got to create a niche, a compelling marketing message, then focus on who your ideal clients are, and then market to them consistently.

But because of the Information Age that we’re smack in the middle of, there are almost TOO many things to work on. Recently, a client asked me to help her set up an affiliate program. She also asked me about shopping carts and other complicated stuff like that. The thing is she still didn’t have a business card, a website, or an ezine in place. Trust me; she’s far from being alone.

We’re all affected with the ‘Bright Shiny Object’ Syndrome in one way or another. Sometimes I find myself caught in the web of all the bright shiny opportunities I want to take advantage of. The problem is, these distract us, pull away our focus and dilute our efforts.

‘Bright Shiny Objects’ stop us in our tracks. I know from experience, because that’s what happened to me in the past. I can recall one year where I had purchased over a dozen home study courses, had signed on to a yearlong wealth building program, and had committed to (and paid for) a 3-year round of wealth, personal growth, and business courses. Oh, not to mention being part of two mastermind groups, doing active personal growth and development, and working with a coach. That didn’t even include my responsibilities to my clients, my family, and myself.

Seriously, WHAT was I thinking?!?

No wonder I couldn’t focus on anything and get anything really accomplished (well, according to my standards). I had been distracted by all the glittering opportunities, wondering what to work on first. Each “thing” on my list was pulling me in a different direction and when I sat in my office, I couldn’t seem to get any work done. All the shiny projects were calling out at me from the bookshelf. I felt compelled to do it all; therefore, nothing was being done.

With help from someone I trust, I decided to take a hiatus from everything. I took a break from DOING, and after a couple of weeks, I started prioritizing. What’s going to make the most sense to work on first? What will bring in the most revenue effortlessly? What’s most authentic and natural for me right now? What do my clients and subscribers need most from me for them to succeed?

Now, it’s so clear. I know what to do next. I’ve prioritized and I know what foot to put in front of the other. Ironically, that’s what I do with clients every day. For example, the client we talked about earlier. It’s clear that before we work on affiliate programs and other complicated stuff, we needed to focus on what’s going to bring her clients, in this case, a simple Client Attractive website, an e-zine that will establish her know-like-trust factor, more networking and speaking. First things first. Shiny objects later.

Your Assignment:

Start thinking about how you’re working these days. Are you focused? Are you operating in a step-by-step process, or are you confused about what to do next, pulled into a bazillion directions, not getting anything done? Decide to put one foot in front of the other and be OK with not being seduced by the Bright Shiny Objects beckoning you. Get some help prioritizing and implementing if you need to. You’ll have time later on for all the other glittering stuff, AFTER you’ve implemented the proven basics that work.

Wow, what a great week with my Winners Academy clients. I adore each and every one of them and am THRILLED with their big breakthroughs and successes. We kicked off the week with our Gold Mastermind Meeting, with close to 100 yummy “Goldies” who came into Stamford for two full days of how to get more clients, make a lot more and implement 10x more than they typically implement. And of course, we had a blast celebrating at our Beach Party on Monday night. We enjoyed a New England clambake, danced the limbo and toasted each other with Sea Breeze cocktails. Oh, how I love my Goldies!

Next up was our Platinum Mastermind Retreat at the Stamford Yacht Club where we covered How to Clone Yourself through Technology. We welcomed several new “Plats” into this amazing group and Wednesday evening we celebrated with a sunset cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception down by the water. I’m so proud of this group and all that they are accomplishing in their businesses. Finally, today, I’ll be spending the day with second year Diamond Client, Christine Kane. She broke 7-figures with me last year, and she’s back to increase that this year! This week was a blast. We all had a great day at the yacht club where I hosted my VIP students for a “Bonus Day” we affectionately call, “Fabienne Unplugged”, a bonus given to those who took immediate action in registering for my recent Get More Clients workshop. I heard a quote from Charles “Tremendous” Jones that says something like, “Who you will be in 5 years is a direct result of the people you learn from and spend time with, as well as the books you read.” That basically sums up my personal preference to continually learn new growth concepts and then applying them to my business, as well as the importance of spending time with other highly successful people who love growth. My private high-level clients love that I pass on to them the concepts that work so they can grow in massive leaps. That’s why I would never be without at least one mentor making at the very least 10x what I’m making, and neither should you. So, that’s why Derek and I are in Toronto for a couple of days, learning from those making at least 10x what we are and reading the books they do.

Being successfully self-employed is about living an extraordinary lifestyle and you know me, it’s never all work… you’ve got to live life to the fullest. So we joined some good friends for drinks and stunning 360 views of Toronto’s skyline and Lake Ontario at a chic and exclusive rooftop lounge, before heading to dinner at Scarpetta’s. I rarely eat pasta anymore, but the orecchiette with fava beans and fresh mint was unbelievably delicious. I take a no-excuses approach to living well!
